    checking Compression problems...

I have a 97 sl 700 and I was "trying" to check compression (newbie) for the first time....I got a compression tester this morning from local parts store.....i took out both plugs and installed the tester in cylinder 1 started it and....NOTHING...I installed it in cylinder 2 and got 30lbs...

the thing that makes me wonder is that I have a 94 kaw st 75o that starts up and idles ....so I decided to check it and both of them said 60 ?

I thought that you needed 130-150

    what am i doing wrong??

Wide open throttle, keep cranking the engine until the gauge stops climbing

I took back gauge and got a different one....cyl 1 ---30lbs and cylinder 2 ----60 lbs both times the gauge stayed there and never lost pressure or went any higher....took the heads off they look good and didnt see any scratches in sleeves the pistons says 80.97 on top.....so i am guessing that they are standard bore...

    what is my next step?

    1. That particular gauge is a POS
    2. Everything looks good, but your rings are shot.
    3. Your doing something wrong with ur method.
