    Mpem blown?

I suspect the mpem in my 1998 gsx limited 951 is blown. I started it and after about 5 seconds the ski shut off. No crank nothing. I can get it to crank jumping the solenoid. But it just cranks and there is no spark. The 5 amp fuse on my mpem is blown. I pulled the stator gray plug and put a new fuse in the mpem and it also blew. Is there a write up or someone who fixes these mpems?

You could have a shorted gauge or info center. If memory serves me they get there power from that fuse as well. Just a thought

    from the manual:
The PURPLE wire is the 12 Vdc power source of
    the Info Center.
The BLACK wire is the ground.
The RED/PURPLE wire is the 12 Vdc from the battery
protected by a 5 A fuse on the MPEM.

I unplugged that gauge harness that goes into the mpem. Fuse still blew.

What Mpems will work in this machine? The part number on this mpem is 98M1330-A, PBT-GF40<, and Denso 071000- 1330.

What is the most common way to blow a MPEM? Will hooking the battery up incorrectly (Reverse: positive to black, negative to red) blow the MPEM?

    Part Number 295500790 - Denso 071000-1330

This is the updated Part Number and updated Denso Number for that model.. The orginial MPEM was change to fix timing and starter issues..

There are several other MPEM's that will work from different models around that year, but I would get the correct MPEM..
