    need info...cracked hull

I have a 96 sl 700 i have a 5 inch crack in front of the intake grate meets the hull that leaks (just in front of screw) i have resin and glass ..... i was wondering best way to fix..

I have read ALOT of posts about how to repair....some people say drill holes at both ends of crack some people say dont....(if so drill all the way threw?)

I understand i need to grind the crack but need to know if i need to go all the way threw?

    any advise would be AWESOME!!

Do not use polyester resin!!!!!!! It will not stick to these SMC hulls. You need to use epoxy. Grind some out of the crack, use epoxy and glass cloth to fill it in. Sand smooth when cured. LAy up a piece inside the hull if at all possible. Make sure everything is clean and roughed up before applying the epoxy.

Don't need to drill holes. You can if you want to but its probably not necessary.

Where ever you put the epoxy the hull has to be clean and sanded.

Yep, Acetone is good to remove any residual oils. drilling through each end of the crack is fine. Definitely lay cloth inside beyond the edges of the crack to bond everything together.

Did you get any faring compound from US Composites? That stuff is fantastic for making a mayonaise type resin to feather out the edges of your repair on the exterior side.

no i got some filler to put into the resin to fill in the scrapes and dents tho....so i should drill threw and flair out the crack then start to resin in fiberglass.?
