    Mtragers piston seizure

Pics of mtragers tripple after 5hrs on new pistons. Still ran 7950 with
plenty of power but when it seizes there is always damage. It will
    eventually fail.

Everything is good now and properly broke in!

Hard to believe something that looks this bad can still run good.

Thank you Carrie and Duke for posting those pictures.

I new the ski had seized on the first ride out but did not know it was damaged
untill Duke and I pulled the heads to check piston wash at 5 hours.

There where no signs of damage in the skis performance. We now know
that damage only caused 100 rpms on the top and about 10 lbs of compression. I know I am not the sharpest tool in the shed but I would have never known the motor was damaged unless I pulled the head. Duke looked in the cylinder with his stethiscope and told me it was hurt but I did not believe
him until we pulled the heads.

I am not ashamed to share this with you. I will learn as I go. And thanks to Duke this only cost 150 dollars to fix.

He is not only fast on the river, he is Lightning Mcqueen in the garage.

Duke is OK in my book.

Glad you guys caught it before more damage happened.

    Speed Junkie,

I think what caused it was after running the ski for 30 mins blipping the throttle and then letting it cool off completely I got on it just long enough to catch up to my friends who were racing.

Once I caught them I let up to 1/2 throttle and was cruising next to them
watching them race. The ski just died.

Bottom line the motor was not warmed up enough for me to run those guys down. And even today with the water being cooler if the motor is not warm the ski bogs when I give it gas until the motor is completly warmed up.

Since this , Duke has had the same thing happen to his 1200. Warm them up, Turn the fuel up and let it eat.

Cold seizure on a motor with less than 30 minutes on it.

Run them rich for at least 2 hours. New rings on fresh bores develope
lots of heat due to the increased friction.

Mark are you running gas better than 93? I have always heard that tripples like to have a hint of race gas mixed in regardless of compression.
