    SLTX and SLT 780 oil tank issues

    OK guys, we're having some real issues with the oil tanks and how they mount on these 2 models.

    I'm looking to see what you are coming up with for fixes.

    We just a had a MAJOR catastrophic failure today on the 1998 SLTX. (similar issues are brewing on the 97 SLT 780 as well)

    For those that have these models, you prob know what I'm talking about.

    The oil tank mounts onto the fuel tank using a "dove tail" slip fit. It's then restrained with a single aluminum bar. Poorly designed, this aluminum bar has a recess notched out of it for the oil tank fitting that goes to the pump. The fitting is molded out of the tank (plastic nipple).

    Anyone see the problem here??????


    Every one I have seen, the oil tank filler neck bounces and contacts the head nuts. What do you think is going on with that plastic fitting and aluminum restraint?


    Yep you guessed it!!! SLTX came back to the dock with a rainbow trailing it, and blue fluffy looking oil all over the back floor mat.

    The guys were wave jumping (4-6 footers) and the oil tank somehow came out of it's dove tail. Breaking the plastic oil fitting and dumping about 3 qts of synthetic oil into the hull. So much, that the bilge pump was ejecting the oil out and onto the rear mat.


    So, what are you guys doing to combat this issue????

    Premix is not an option for my friend. (another reason I love premix on MY skis)

    I'm thinking a bungee cord wrapped around the oil tank and pulling it down and forward to keep it off that aluminum "Ginsu knife" Polaris calls a restraint.

    Guess no one else beats on their SLT/X as hard as we do......
