Do you hear the starter whining as it spins, but the engine itself does not crank and turn over?

If so, then the Bendix gear may need lubrication or replacement. Must remove flywheel to replace the Bendix.

Post moved to new thread for clarity.

    MFD not required for starting.

sorry 'bout that, for some reason i didn't see your reply to my first post, thanks for the help, along with being new to skis, i'm also new to forums, yes the starter whines as it spins, i can see the driveshaft just barely "bump" but it doesn't catch and spin, i guess i won't be on the water this weekend, thanks for the help k447!!!!

Sounds like the bendix is stuck.

Remove the flywheel cover and see what's hanging up.

ARE YOU GETTING ENOUGH VOLTAGE? The 2 used ones i got did the same thing, until i jumpered them and they started right up. In conclusion my culprite was weak batteries. Bought 2 new ones, and good as new.

+1 on needing the battery to be strong.

A weak battery may spin the starter, but not strongly enough to start the engine.

Battery voltage while cranking should be well over 10.6 volts while cranking. Check it with a multimeter, not the dash display.

that was the problem, the bendix was binding, i took the flywheel cover off and lubed everything, motor is cranking now but won't start up and run, i've got spark cause i hooked up the in-line spark plug tester and all three plug wires are firing, might be still lacking fuel, i thought i was doing a good thing by installing an in-line fuel filter but i watched it while i was cranking and it would suck the filter dry so i took it off and hooked the line back together, poured some fuel mix down the carb throats, still won't start up, what am i missing??

brand new odyssey battery, bought last year before i put the ski up, got 11.7 volts while cranking, the only thing left is fuel, when i was checking things out last year compression was 120 and the timing shouldn't be affected just sitting there, it's 10:00 here now but i don't want to stop before i figure this out!!
