going to the lake with ski. okay to leave in water ?

for a week. place we will be staying has a place we can tie up and leave boats in the water. will my ski be okay just floating there for a week? ill go out and ride it of course, and ill pull it out for gas at some point but if it rains or anything how likely is it that water will get in it? i just dont want the hull to get a good amount of water in it then i have to struggle to get it on plane so the siphon bildge can suck it out or anything.

can i put the cover on it when its in the water?

i know to tie it into a slip so its not touching anywhere, so im guessing front bow eye, but in the rear should i tie it to one of the hold downs on the deck or the rear grab handle?

where it sits wont see too many waves, and tide doesn't effect it much.

or should i just keep it out of water on the trailer?

what is the best thing to keep an eye on while im there when riding it, just check the plugs every now and again? what sort of wierd behavior should i be concerned about if anything goes wrong? just pay no mind to it unless it starts to not run right, or be hard to start? i never feel like i know what to listen for, sometimes my throttle response feels different or it makes an odd sound. what do you guys keep an eye and ear out for?

    Steed,
A week at SML, huh? Mine won't start until July 16.
Leave that baby in the water. We had 3 skis tied to the dock for a week last year with no problems.
Take your seat off first morning after you spend the night and check inside hull for water. If you find enough to concern you, you can spend your vacation troubleshooting. Oh Boy!!!!

yes sir. SML for the week. good stuff. it never takes on a drop of water when riding it, but im not leaving it floating either. i was only concerned about when it rains. last time we were there we took my little john boat (was when my ski was blown up) and it rained off and on, and at one point we almost sunk the john boat there was so much water in it.

i know the footwells will fill up but didnt know if any water will find its way into the hull.

should i put the cover on it while its floating or not worry about it?

you gonna be up this way anytime? we should meet up and ride?

also looking for someone that's messed with 5200 before to help me do my reinforcement, ppk, grate, plate, ect install. i can do it myself just would like to have someone thats done it before around. if your going to be this way any time let me know.

Yep, especially in Arizona. We have a lot of decorative gravel along the roads and also a lot of dust so our windshields usually get replaced yearly! That also makes for havoc on a painted ski!! Covers are a must!

I always feel like I'm stretching the cover out. Good stuff.

Ski runs great. Only thing its done is one time it sat for an hour or so, started it up idled fine then cut off. But it started right back up and ran fine

Might not be anything. Just went out again didn't rev too nicely without warming up but was all good after letting it warm up for a minute.

    SML

Be staying a little north of the bridge July 16-23.

Pull with covers on when dry, leave off when wet.
Maybe cover when docked if it rains.

Only used 5200 once so far, on cases, probably not much help.

Good deal. Your carbed skis conch out on you every now and then when not up to temperature? I feel like I'm missing pretty bad but its probably my imagination

I usually idle for a couple minutes, run about 20 mph for a minute then take off.
Did rebuild the carbs on the '98 xl1200 over winter as I had to feather the throttle when starting off even when warmed up. No problems now.
