    Noob question about pump angle/propulsion

How come it seems like when I turn around to look at the water stream coming out of the pump it looks to me like Im wasting thrust across the top of the water instead of into it?
Which I think would push me forward more efficiently.

Its normal. It the the displacement of the water where the jet stream enters the water.
