    06 F12X "F1" Problem

Good afternoon. I had my 06 f12x serviced and winterized last fall, and after 35 minutes of regular use it gave me an intermittent F1 warning, I babied it for five minutes, than it stayed on for good and the RPMs started jumping a little. My dealer tried to charge me $110 for a diagnostic test, to run it for 30 minutes (did not duplicate the problem,) and to clear the code with no real explination of the real cause. I bitched and only paid $70, still too much after 35 minutes of use after a $240ish service and winterization last fall. I ran it on the hose today with no problem, than took it out on the lake, didn't get 100' away from the dock and the warning light and noise started and engine RPM thing started again. Please help, what do I do?

    Thanks,
    Ed

Paperword from Manchester Honda says, "Ran unit with HDS DTC-knock sensor indicated.".

You either have a bad knock sensor or a bad ECU. It only takes two minutes to swap ECUs with no tools, just releasing a reuseable cable tie.

I am trying to get it into the dealer but they're kind of jerkin me around. How hard would it be to replace either the ECU or the knock sensor? Are these parts expensive? Which would you start with first? Thanks!

A new ECU is $780+/- and a good used one is $400 [I just bought one]. The knock sensor is $90+/- and is an hour and a half job with the right tools.

I hope it is the knock sensor than. The machine only has 45 hours on it and it is very well maintained. What does or is the knock sensor supposed to indicate? Would that be the first and most logical step to try first?
