    got a 1996 780SLX!!! (from a farmer >=/ and need some help)

    1996 slx 780......
    So this is my first ski and I have learned a LOT from reading around and I'm sure there are others this has happened to but i just cant seem to find it so im going to lay down a new thread...

    This thing has a new top end that is bored .5 mm over with wsm pistons.

    put it in the water the other day after getting a thing figured out with the rev limiter and it feels very sluggish with a struggling top speed of 40.5 mph at 5800 rpm on semi choppy water.

    i think this thing is more capable than that and hope for anything that might be helpful for me to look at from you guys.
    Thanks in advance,
    Torey

    Welcome to the Hulk Torey.

    There's ALOT more in that ski. Around another 12 MPH and 700 RPM.

    Have any of the fuel system updates been done? (you do NOT need a triple outlet fuel pump. Yours came with one already)

    Also take a look at the links provided in K447 posts.

    Thanks for the quick response and I checked into the fuel... My ski has newer fuel lines but I am not sure about the carbs. But i don't think I'm starving for fuel as my spark plugs are black and wet.. should they still be rebuilt tho?

    1995 SLX carb initial settings:

    Main Jet = 105
    Pilot Jet = 72.5
    High Screw turn out = 7/8 mag, 3/4 cen, 1-1/8 PTO
    Low Screw turn out = 1/2
    POP = 10-18 PSI

    Hope this helps.

    Where did you get those specs from????

    Those are not for a 1996 SLX 780.
