    MSX 140 head question

Hey everyone, I've got an 03 MSX 140 that had the PTO cylinder go down (chunk of the piston on the exhaust side missing, scratched the cylinder, dinged up the head, etc.). Anyways, tore that down and took heads off other 2 cylinders and found mag head was missing the 2 little cooling water restrictor plates. Not sure if that would cause my problem with the PTO cylinder (it had 271 hours on it) and am wondering if those plates are absolutely necessary or not? (#9 in the drawing) Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, thanks, I suppose that head missing the restrictors might get more flow than the other 2 (or would it be less)? I'm curious as to how/why they are missing. Will have to try and reinstall before it goes back on the cylinder after I get it back together.

I don't know if anyone is aware of this but evidently the MSX 140 head is not supplied with the 2 cooling water restrictors anymore! I just got a new head to replace the one that got dinged up when the PTO cyl. went and it didn't have the restrictors. Not sure if Polaris no longer includes those but it didn't say anything about this on the Babbitt's website where I ordered it from. Evidently they weren't included with the one I had replaced on the MAG cyl at a dealership last year either.
Anyone have any ideas on why/when this was changed and if they are really necessary now?
