Bad News - Teen dies when personal watercraft hits pontoon boat

    http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/124699763.html

Minocqua - A 13-year-old girl was killed when the personal watercraft she was operating collided with a pontoon boat in northern Wisconsin.

The Vilas County sheriff's office said the accident was reported around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday near the south end of Rest Lake in the Manitowish Waters Chain of Lakes.

Authorities said Emily White of Manitowoc was operating a personal watercraft when she and her passenger were thrown after colliding with the pontoon. The operator of the pontoon dived into the water and pulled Emily aboard, but she was pronounced dead. Her passenger had minor injuries.

The impact threw two passengers on the pontoon into the water. They were not hurt.

    The crash is under investigation.

is there any age restrictions in Wisc? They just raised the age from 16 to 18 here in Michigan, so 17 year olds that were riding legally last summer cant ride this summer. I still wonder what age its logical to keep kids off these things at.

In Wis. It's legal at 13 if you've completed a boaters safety course

I am in Wisconsin and that just blows my mind that they let a 12 year old ride one of these unsupervised. It should be 16. Too much performance there to let someone who can't even drive a car on a ski.

They just got the worst beating God can give out, they get to spend the rest of the time they have left on earth without a child they loved. Sorry to hear of such a tragedy. We just had 3 teens under the age of 16 die in a car joy-ride around here last week. Such a short time....

It actually went from 14 to 16, and that is unsupervised. 14-15 yr olds can still operate them if their parents are nearby.

Just one more stick to beat us with. Start looking for more restriction. Now they will make it so you have to be 1000 feet from all craft on the water. The last death on a pwc in Oregon was 2005 he was 41 years old. If you compare pwc with the boat accident. 95% more boating accident still. But people look at this and blame the pwc industries. Too bad someone had to die.
