    Speed/RPM sanity check

Totally rebuilt both a 2004 RXP and 2005 RXT over the winter, and ran about 2-3 hours at varying speeds. Both have newest 101 SC rebuild kit, 2008 oiler mod, 2007+ valves.. Decided today to do a performance check.

Water temp 85, air temp 85, 1/2 full tank on both, 160 lb rider, light chop.

2004 RXP launches with no cavitation, 7800 RPM off launch, really pulls strong. Tops out at 66.3 MPH GPS at 8000 RPM. Totally stock except for Riva pistons. Brand new wear ring, good stock prop. VTS at slightly below center. Some growling of pump bearings at mid range light load; should have replaced them at wear ring replacement. Plan to go with X charger, 42 lb injectors, XS intercooler, 14/19 Solas (already have) over next winter (which is why I went with Riva pistons)

2005 RXT hits limiter at launch, slight cavitation. Tops out at 63.5 MPH GPS, 7900 RPM. Totally stock. Prop good, but wear ring has a fair amount of wear; probably should have replaced it when pump was out.

Comments on above RPM/Speeds? Seems like the RXP is about right, but RXT is a bit low on RPM and speed?

You are around 160 rpms missing on the RXP as you sohuld be around 8160 ish. Also 200 plus on the RXT as well. Trim the VTS all the way up and see if you gain those back. The best setting usually is all the way up so you get as much of the hull out of the water. I would check your carbon seal and bellow on the RXT. It shouldn't cavitate out of the hole unless the carbon seal and bellows or the wear ring is bad. JMO!

Just went out and tried experimenting with VTS. It made a big difference in top speed. I found the best spot was two bars above the neutral setting. The RXP ran 68.2 at 8100 at that setting.

My PX without a wedge seemed to like 2 bars above nuetral for best speed. With the wedge it likes it all the way up.
