Newb Needs help please! 2000 SLX rev limit stuck on

I bought 2 2000 SLX 1200's excellent condition, both MFD's are bad. One runs great, the other runs fine unless you try to go over half throttle then the rev limiter kicks in. Has full gas and oil tanks, is not getting hot, I have read and searched but not found any real answers. My kids want to ride them on this holiday weekend so if someone can help me out it would be much apprecieated.
    thaanks,
    Mike

If the MFD is not working, and replacing the 1/4 Amp fuse does not solve the problem, then unplug the connector from the back of the MFD. A bad MFD can mess with the ignition system.

Take a look at the recommended upgrades and maintenance for your machine (red domestic engine) using the links in my signature.

What you don't want to do is run them lean with a compromised fuel system, or you will be back here on Tuesday asking about engine repairs...

if it's full of oil and it has gas and your SURE it's not running hot open the elect box and replace the fuse like K447 said and at the same time remove the gray wire from the cdi and see how it runs if it runs better i would remove the tstat until you figure it out

I called the guy I bought them from to see if hehad any ideas or had had this problem. He got very upset as he had just taken both to the dealer to be checked out so he could sell them and know they were ok. He insisted on driving over, picking it up and taking it back. They claim it was a carb adjustment, to me is had to be electrical he is picking it up this am and putting it in the water to test. If it is ok he will deliver back. I have to give him props for being a stand up guy and taking care of this.

Note the bad MFD can affect the engine.

If the MFD is not working then during the water test unplug the MFD connector and see if that helps. My signature links have a diagram showing how to get the MFD out of the handlebar pad without damage.
