so my house got robbed this morning!!!
im a college student who lives is in pennsylvania. I go to school at the Penn College of Technology in williamsport (the little league baseball town). My roommates (8 including myself) and myself live in a 2 family 3 story house 4 blocks off campus. its not the worst section of town but somebody was murdered 30 yards from our front door a few weeks ago in braud (sp?) daylight .
so 2 of my roommates wake up this morning to go to work, walk downstairs at 730. The front door was wide open, side window(behind the palm tree) was wide open. more importantly the front window blinds they left open all night. they had both of thier computers sitting on the table (custom built..1500 a peice), thier keys, ipods, cell phones..all of on the table in plain view diectly infront of the open shades ..
they took both of their computers and monitors, both sets of keys!!!!!(yes house keys, car keys..everything), a cell phone (which the turned off cause we tried to call it) and an ipod.
wats worse is i live on the 2nd floor diectly over the front door, i heard the door open at some point in the morning, it was light out so i figured it was just my roommates goin to work . so these guys had some f*kin balls to break in, steal 2 computers and walk out the front door at 7am in plain site.
cops came, werent much help. they cant really do nething about it. i bet if i go walkin around lookin to buy some computers ill find them. they are 2 custom built comps, 1 has a custom camo painted case that he painted himself. i mean we're not talkin about generic dells. he had finals notes, projects, social security #, finanial aid info..eveything on there, no password, all his porn..he was so upset they had his porn.."luckly i have some on my laptop" he says to me. lol.
so they both went to work, they both went in 1 car and we blocked in the other car. land lord will be here soon to change the locks. we lock up VERY well. that window must have been open for months cause nobody ever opens it. ive broken in to the kitchen window before when i forgot my keys. its def not hard. u just feel violated..if u ever watch that show on discovery "it takes a thief" were they break into people houses to show how easy it really is. thats exactly how i feel. im here alone (theres other roommates on the other side but still) and i have a bat in my hand waitin for that door to open. it just sucks..

yea, it really sucks. land lord just changed the locks and gave us some phone #s for renters insurance. told me it was like $60 a year for $10,000 coverage!!!! cheap price if u ask me, too bad we didnt know about it sooner.
it wasnt so much the computer itself as it was the information on the computer. it just sucks having to re-do projects that are due this week... no more lan partys for a while i guess

There have been certain cases where a "home invasion" was repelled by deadly force by the homeowner & the homeowner was arrested because CSI determined that deadly force was not neccecary.ie perp was shot in the back or perp did not brandish a weapon or household items did not appear to be "rummaged thru"or no signs of forced entry..SO..to avoid the unneccecary BS,be sure the perp is at least facing your direction before you unload the clip...then if you must ,stage the area"smartly",dont go overboard, keep it simple & try to be the first one to call 911
I've seen where the homeowners defending their property get arrested, sued, investigated etc,etc
ps..I perfer the crossbow & knife..I dont want my neighbors to know I'm busy doing my "civic" duty
