    Jet pump melt down

I replace the bearings in my 04 r12 two years ago as it was "whining". Yesterday while riding it started making a horrible noise, obviously bearings. I towed the ski home and took it apart. When I removed the cone it was full of water and the bearing were in pieces. Is the cause of this most likely the seal behind the impeller? Is this caused by running out of the water? and has anyone tried oil (gear) instead of grease?

It could be the impeller internal seal, or the oring being out of place on the cone [very common]. Make sure you put the hidden rubber plug that was inside your old impeller back inside the splined hole in the new impeller. Make sure you torque the impeller to 105 ft lbs or it will back off.

Thanks. I ordered the rebuild kit yesterday and a press from Harbor Freight. I plan on doing it next week when I get time. I believe the piece your referring to stayed on the shaft when I removed the impeller. Any advice on grease?

Disregard, after reading again, I realize which part you are referring to.
