Seadoo MAG cup alignment and ring gear differences

    Hey guys,

I am after some insight into the correct way to align a magnito cup onto the ring gear. I have a 2000 Seadoo XP which is the twin coil model. I have the magnito cup that has one long rectangle and three small squares spaced around the outside of it.

What is the correct way to align this mag cup to the ring gear? I can see the hole that is in the ring gear that i take you line up to, but what side of the pick ups do you line up?

Also is there any differences in the ring gear from the single coil (98 model) to the dual coil (2000)?
I have a ring gear out of a 1998, but my ski is all 2000. Will it make a difference?

when you say ring gear do you mean the flywheel? what you need to do is make sure that the MAG piston is at TDC. then look at the front of the flywheel. take the mag cup and place the big magnet of the mag cup just before the pickup and bolt up.

Yes i mean flywheel when i say ring gear.

When you say place the biggest magnet just before the pickup do you mean just before on the lower side of the pickup or just before on the upper side of the pickup?

Thanks so much for your reply so far.

on the upper side. as the crank spins clock wise the big magnet needs to be before the pickup. you need to make sure that when you do this the piston needs to be almost on its descending stroke when the magnet goes under the pickup.

Ok so i have removed the mag cup as i had the long magnet aligned with the drill hole in the flywheel and not the pick up.

I have put the mag cylinder to TDC, and put the mag cup on so that the long magnet is on the high side of the pick up (which makes the long magnet look like it is on TDC too).
There is about a half inch gap between the long magent before it will reach the pick up, is this ok?

Aligning the mag cup this way makes nothing line up with the hole drilled into the flywheel, whats the go with that?

yes that is correct. you must not have a matching cup and flywheel. doing 180* rotation make any difference?
