    Major hull issue on MSX150

Wow... has anyone seen this or ever heard of osmosis and / or major fiberglass delamination on an MSX hull?

Pictures are from our 2004 MSX150. This ski was perfect until last weekend when out of nowhere, we noticed we lost close to 40% of the left hand side hull bottom due to delamination. No warning, no impact, no nothing... the bottom just went while riding the ski on a typical Sunday family ride........

This is the first time I ever see this much delamination damage on a watercraft. The worst part is this ski had a freshly rebuilt engine based on the very rugged Weber snowmobile engine crankcase. It was running a consistent 65mph on GPS and the engine was like a swiss watch.

I frankly don't know what I am going to do with this ski. Part out is an option, but I hate the idea to loose our MSX150 which my wife loved to ride. Repairing is possible but would involve a lot of work to bring the bottom back to an acceptable condition.

Can you say major let down when everything was perfect with the mechanical aspect of the ski... bummer!

The MSX hulls have an inner liner inside the bottom half of the outer hull.

Is that delamination of just the outer hull gelcoat layer or has the entire outer hull ripped away and revealed the inner hull liner?

I suspect you would be able to find another MSX 150 hull with a blown engine easily enough. Probably less work to transfer your good engine into another good hull than try to rebuild that damaged hull.

First report I have seen of damage that extensive on an MSX hull. SeaDoo had similar failures with some early RXP hulls as I recall.

Keith... thanks for this prompt feedback..... the inner and outer hull construction & design now makes sense to me.

Based on what I have closely examined (now that you've educated me about the fact there are inner and outter halves), it is the outer half that just ripped leaving the inner half exposed.

Yes there are MSX hulls that sell for quite cheap... but they are mostly located far from where I live and I need to factor in the amount of work required to transplant everything.... major task!

Need to think about this one... very unexpected to say the least.

Call up BRP and ask them to sell/give you one of the Polaris MSX units they purchased for competitive analysis back in 2004

I would not be surprised if you found one or two MSX units somewhere nearby. They seem to show up in all sorts of odd places, and often enough a long way from where they were originally sold.

Should we mention that the SeaDoo and Polaris hulls were made in the same factory?

holy crap! guess they don't make them like they used to anymore

I would either part out the whole thing or buy a new hull ...that sucks though man
