Jet pump fitment.
Hi; I recently ran across a deal I could not refuse, yea, a bargain, but for $400 on a good galv. trailer, I couldn't refuse, anyway ski had some issues with carb, and had a vibration at half throttle. Rebuilt carb, and replaced driveshaft brg. and seals, engine cranks and runs fine on the hose, revs to rev limiter, but in the lake it will not plane out. Lots of wear on the impeller and housing, I mean about three-sixteenths of an inch clearance between impeller and housing. Could this be my problem? Just ran across a jet pump assembly out of a 1990 Yamaha Super Jet 650. Will this pump fit my 1989 WR500? Thanks for your time, outtatime-xx

the wr,wj and 650 lx /91 use the same pumps (ONLY THOSE MODELS!).. the impeller in a 500/650lx pump must be shimed forward to close the gap .. the wear ring is tapered (a mixed flow,or two stage pump) unlike later pumps.. your gap should be about .006 or even closer with a stainless unit..(less flex on ss over aluminum)
send me a pm with an email addy and ill scan you a section on this..
also inspect you hub stator for worn or broke veins. it is common on older units ..
if you dont have a ss impeller, get one before you shim.. you will see a vast improvement..
