    Well I guess I wanted a project...well i got one

I bought a 2006 GTX Standard 155hp Ski a week ago. It needed an engine rebuild, but I figured I could not go wrong with the price at $ 1200.00. Well as it turns out, it needs slightly more than an engine rebuild. Take a look at the pictures. According to the person I bought it from, they were told it was Hydro-Locked by their mechanic. However, he had no idea what hydro-lock means. After I bought it, I found out that he threw it into reverse while cruising down the river. Here is what I think happened: He over reved the engine and broke 2 exhaust rockers on Cylinder #1 and the engine kept pump gas in, but it could not get back out, because the valves could not open. That building pressure broken the piston and the block. Does this sound reasonable?

The mechanic had never pulled the head, so I did so today, hoping that the damage would be minimal - my hope was gone as I pulled the head off today. Anyway, now I am not sure what to do with it. New Block is $1700. Since I would not have a core a rebuilt probably is cost prohibitive. I could look for a block on ebay? Do any of you guys have any ideas? Since it is not high performance, SBT MIGHT be an option. Can the block be welded and resleeved? The head has a few small pits from debris, but it looks like it is still usable -would you agree, or does even the small impertections cause detonation/other problems? I know I am throwing a lot of questions out.

I bought it knowing it might take a bunch to fix, but at $ 1200, I figured it was worth at least that much in parts, but I would rather fix it back up.

    Thanks in advance

Head does not look bad I may be missing something That block is thrashed used block 500-750 here ya go 2100 long block talk him down i bet it can be had for 2000.00 and way better than sbt like a new motor. you will have 500-700 in used block 150 piston and 150 rod valve job set of rocker arms 300. block machine work set of piston rings gasket set 150. another 400.00 or so if that crank got damaged I personally sell off the good stuff and buy below 2,000 plus maybe 200-400 head could be under 2000.00 3200 for a 2006 with new motor was a deal

i would guess the rocker arms broke when the piston broke, water or fuel in the cylinder would bend a rod but not break a piston and cylinder like that. if the valves aint bent, you will just need a short block and have a valve job done for general purpose, just my two cents..............

I think the problem with this engine that you have linked is that it is a SC engine and mine is a NA. I know they are essentially the same except the pistons correct? I think the SC has forged, but they are lower compression than the cast pistons in the NA engine?
