Current value of MSX 140 ?

Im thinking of picking up an 03 MSX 140. Owner says it started running rough at the end of last season, and had a shop tell him he needed a new fuel pump. Sounds like the pressure regulator to me, wich would be an awesome no $$ fix.
Whole ski appears to be in above average condition, very well cared for. Comes on a Triton aluminum trailer, and OEM Polaris cover. Titles for both.
    He said $2300.

It sounds like a good price to me so long as it starts. I would probably do a compression test before buying it.

What are MSX 140's going for these days?
I am considering buying it and riding untill my Virage is done being built, then swapping trailers and selling it. Or I might keep it, but I would be dipping into savings to buy it - not something I like to do.

FWIW - The price started at $2800. The way I see it, the trailer is worth at least a solid $500, maybe a little more.

    Really?
Even with the nice trailer, and the fact it actually starts and runs?

How much is a mint, running fine, no problems 03 140 worth?

To be safe, assume that the EMM also needs repair. It may not, of course, but if it does that will set you back $700.

Also budget for a new TPS. Always good to have a spare on hand anyways.

I wouldn't touch that thing with a 10 foot pole! You could buy it, and end up needing a new motor.

You are better off saving your money for a good running ski .

Could the same be said about any used watercraft?

There are plenty of MSX 140 machines running around with no issues at all. When they do have issues, they are often TPS and EMM related, and the engine itself is fine.

My own MSX 140 has had no issues related to engine or EMM. Runs well, no real problems, probably 120 running hours since spring of 2008.

The Weber turbo engined MSX 150 is an entirely different discussion...

    I have spare TPS's / EMM's w/injectors / cylinders / heads / and crank.
I'm not really worried about those things.
The guy is selling it because he lost his job and has to move for a new one.

Keep in mind in my area, used skis are wicked expensive. A running 99 SLT here is listed for $2800 - and I can promise you he will get between 2000-2500. Its insane. I see 92-95 seadoo 2 seaters selling for $1800 all the time.

I wouldn't buy a 110 or a 150. Parts for those are more expensive then gold!

Plus as stated earlier, I have spare parts for a 140 allready. (I know port timing, and emm are different, but will still work)

If Bob wasn't factoring in the trailer value then his price range plus $500 for the trailer is fairly close to $2000.

Sounds like you are in a reasonable position to negotiate a deal. I would buy it if it was near me.

Do your pre-purchase checks, of course. Fuel pressure and compression for sure.

Look for the service bulletin update stickers on the side of the flame arrestor. Always nice to know it had the work done.
