    1997 polaris sltx 1050 need help!!!!

    i just bought a 1997 polaris sltx 1050cc jet ski and it doesnt have spark to any of the cyclinder! i just put a new battery in! and when i go to hit the mode button on the display it blinks the red light and put something up on the display but its not readable and does that for 15 or 20 sec and then goes back to the reg display, but if i dont touch the display for 20 or 30 mins it will do the same thing with the red light! now how do i check if i have the updated stator? what would cause the display problem? another thing i noticed was i took the spark plugs off and put my finger over the holes and number 1 and 3 blow my finger off but number 2 felt like it had no compression at all! i figure i should figure out the spark problem first rite? any help would be great!

    Welcome.

    It would seem that you have several problems with that machine.

    In reverse order of severity;

    Unplug the MFD connector on the back. A bad MFD display can cause weird engine problems.

    No spark can have multiple possible causes. Weak battery (even new batteries can be weak). Original ignition system that has failed. Polaris sells an ignition system update kit that includes a new stator and new CDI, both of a newer and better design.

    No compression on one cylinder. Buy a compression gauge and measure the actual compression on each cylinder. All spark plugs out, throttle held wide open.

    Typical cause of no compression is a hole melted through center of piston. Typical cause of holed piston is carburetors clogged internally and needs rebuilding.

    I just bought one from a parts store. They are pretty much universal.

    Ok and so when you say disconnect mfd should I disconnect it and try starting it or what?
    How do I test the cdi , coil, and stator? Where should I get i service manual.

    Unplugging the MFD simply eliminates the MFD as a possible problem cause until you get the other problems fixed.

    The biggest one is the internal engine damage. Until you get that sorted out the other problems don't matter much.
