    98 gsxl

    hey guys im looking to get another ski and I found a great deal on a grey and red 98 gsx limited with a 951 motor that was rebuilt last year. never been in the salt water either. I believe the ski is stock too. ill be looking at it this weekend hopefully and doing a water test and possibly compression test. Is there any major issues with these skis or engines that are prone to failure, any common problems. I currently have a ultra 250x kawai. I am learning in time how to make repairs hear and there. I am somewhat mechanicly inclined lol but if its over my head ill bring it to a shop for repairs.

    IMO... Stay away from that 97 1/2. it had several issues, It made Dateline or 20/20 at one time years ago. some guy was killed on it and blamed it on the pump design or something like that..

    from what i have read that all the grey hulls had the "white" motors which were not good and all the red and purple skis have the "gray" motor which was better. is it possible that a gray hull came with a gray motor? because i have seen a few pics of gray hulls having the grey motor. ive also heard about pump issues.

    It was rushed to market imo and they all came with the white motor

    the white motor has inherent flaws. its is prone to water ingestion. however...if you have a gray motor with a white pipe you can get another possible 300 rpms out of it.
