RXT 05 vs 06 driveshaft differences - Lessons learned

Just wanted to share some knowledge about the differences between the driveshaft and seal setup on the 05 vs 06. Basically the 06 shaft is a little thicker down the middle but the carbon seal and hat are much bigger. The bellows is the same size on both ends meaning, the hull insert (where the driveshaft passes from inside to outside) is much bigger also. In plain English, EVERYTHING is different between the small diameter shaft and the bigger shaft skis. The carbon seal, the hat, the c-clip and the bellows.

I wasted my money and have an entire 06 setup that doesn't fit my ski. You can find it in the classifieds if you want to buy it.

There seems to be a discrepancy on what year this changed, I just replaced someones 07 hull with a 05 and the seal and boot were the same, but I know the 03 is smaller.....

If you missed it, Part 2 of nightmare in seadoo street and Part 1 of nightmare in seadoo street

The 05 RXP has the bigger shaft/seal, I have an 05 RXT which had the smaller shaft/seal. In 06 it was changed.

Eli, Sorry you are having a bad time with this. I know you are busy with alot of other stuff right now, too. Maybe once all that is done with we can have a repair party. I never worked on a RXT before, but to do a SCer rebuild. I didn't realized all the differences. Like when you brought the pump over and I was telling you I thought the early RXTs had the smaller shaft on the prop too. So, the 05 RXTs shafts are half GTX (front part) and RXP (rear part).

Funny thing, I just sold a 05 rxt hull, that I bought new from our dealer (left over katrina inventory) and did the guys engine/driveline install. I pulled his 07 stuff incl. the boot and carbon seal, went right on. Bruce Taylor, my dealer was surprised himself. Seems that at least 1 late 05 has the "late" set-up.........

Pretty much what you did was a conversion to the new style shaft. But the 05 RXT's do come with a different Driveshaft(Same length but skinnier around the Bell area) Also brings a smaller bell, skinnier carbon seal and skinneri boot.

Hmm, not sure then. Maybe it was a late model RXT that had the conversion already on it or something but some are definitely different.

This happened to me also on a RXT 2005 so i just put the 06 carbon seal in the 05 accordion boot and it worked.

Thanks for the offer Jim but I'm already moved to Georgia. I already pushed the seadoo off the trailer in the back of the house. It can rot for all I care. I'm happy in my old 97 gp1200.
