    Full Tank versus 1 - 3 Bars

OK, I am getting a brain fart here!! I plugged my intake grate and ride plate holes and went out this morning ready to break the "ELUSIVE" 70 mph mark. The thing is, I filled my 16 gal tank after riding last week and obtaining consistent high 69's @ 8350 -8400. Air and water 80 today which was a little warmer than last week and only reaching 8300's and a best of 69.1. Did I basically null and void my mod of filling the holes by filling the tank and the slightly warmer temps? How much does a gal of fuel weigh because I suppose if I multiply that by at least 14 I did add quite a bit of weight.

i did a post on this awhile back:

1 gallon of gasoline equals 5.8 to 6.5 lbs. (depending on temperature)

    here's the post:

Without a doubt warmer temps plus full tank vs. nearly empty tank can scrub an easy 1 mph, or more.

Did you not get the tank down to 1-3 bars ?

Thanks, appreciate the replies.....I suppose I was just looking for miracles just plugging up the holes, even with a full tank and higher temps. I figured that I added about 85lbs worth of fuel based on VFX's post. Geeze, that is a hell of a lot more weight than I thought!!

Could the additional "side" fairings on my LTD actually be causing drag??

Kinchyle, Nope, I didn't get to ride enough to get it back down to 3 bars, ran out of time.

Amazing that I am hovering in the 69's consistently and can't get to 70!!

Have you tried to shift your weight to the back? I slide back to the groove between the 2nd and 3rd seat and it gives me about .3 more. I thought about putting the fairings on my rxt but I would think it would interfere with the intake flow from the vents on the side.

i go in superman position when GPSing my RXT.. haha... big time speed increase, no exaggeration either. i also prefer doing my GPS run after the fuel alarm has gone off about 5 times so i know she's only holding another gallon or two

hurts my balls, and when I hit a wake it hurts even worse.

I can only do it when it's real smooth. I haven't noticed any speed difference when I get farther back then the crack between the 2nd and 3rd seat. Any more forward and I start loosing speed. Almost .4-.5 mph.

So I can say my butt gives me .5 mph

I don't know why I'm posting this and I am not recommending that anyone try it...BUT... in one of my crazier moments I went so far as to wedge a piece of hard rubber in the throttle lever, to hold it wide open, while I slid back onto the boarding platform (look Ma..no hands..no brains either !!) and ducked behind the seat. The water was dead calm with no other boats in sight. The GPS recorded speed was almost a mile faster than what I got while holding onto the bars and sitting as far back as I could. Weight in the rear definitely helps ! Unless you are a fat broad looking to land a date !!
