    What does this mean? ***UPDATE***

I know someone selling a 99 XL1200LTD for 1k....unit is very, very clean....only thing is they said 1 cylinder (the back one) is weak.....not sure what that means. Should I buy it anyway. Has maybe 50 hours on it if that. Thanks.

Meaning it's not holding compression, if you decided to buy it I would do a compression check on the other 2 cylinder...

would that require replacing some parts or the entire motor?

Well without taking the head off it would be hard to tell. you really need to pull the head and see the condition of the cylinder. If the cylinder look good then you just need to replace the piston and ring...

I would pass enless you plan on putting some serious time and money into the ski. Chances are you would have it in riding condition at the end of the summer at best and your wallet would be $1500 to $2500 lighter depending on how much needed to be rebuilt.

parts and working on it isn't a problem.....just trying to narrow down what "WEAK" cylinder meant. Hoping something else is causing it.

ok, so I did a compression check on the motor.....1st cyl was 115 (closest to bow); 2nd was 115 (middle); and the 3rd was 0 (rear one). Guess I will have to open it up to see exactly whats wrong or what is needed. Just hope I don't need an entire motor.

Does that mean you already bought it?

Did you buy a service manual? Main point for now is finding out what caused the failure. Either being an oil line failure(hopefully as rings and piston may fix it if the cylinder isn't damaged), power valve failure, ring failure or a lean run condition. Find out what caused it. How many hours on the ski? 1K is alot for a 99 with a failed engine. About 800-900 with a good trailer would be fair depending on hours.
