A couple questions from a newb

2000 xl 1200 PV I got it all pulled apart the carbs are being rebuilt and flame arrestors put on and accelerator pump removed i pulled off the front airbox and inspected oil lines and found them to be secure so im staying with the pump for now. I just removed the covers for the power valves and saw some evidence of water, there were some spots of white grease and there looked to be moisture on the clips for the pv Its only in cylinder 1. This is my first year with ski 110hrs on it i have never rolled it but dont know if it ever was.
So Any thoughts on water under the pv cover any possible causes and what i should check. And while i have this thing apart any thing else that you guys would recommend to inspect thanks
