Loss of power and heavy vibration

FZR. Cruisin at about 4 knots. About 4k rpm. Suddenly loss power and then heavy vibration at 4.5krpm. 20 hours never thrashed. When i turn it off I hear the bearings of the charger spin freely. You guys think its the supercharger?

Unless it piles up completely you likely wont feel the supercharger. Upon shut down the charger always freewheels a bit its just coasting on the clutch. If not for the clutch it would just snap the shaft on shutdown. Pull the intake (ski SHUT OFF) and make sure the charger wheel only turns one way. Otherwise, check your jet pump bearings. Pull the pump and see how they spin, if they are rough and stuck then bingo. They make quite a rattle when they go and you will feel through the hole ski.

Maybe a stick or something stuck in the pump?

After towing the ski back. I checked if anything is stuck and nothing.

Got home, I turned the ski on, plug the hose and let it idled for a about 30 seconds. Started to give it a slight rev till about 3.5k rpm, very carefully.. the vibration is there but very less pronounced since there's no load. I decided to unplug the hose. Let it idle for another few seconds to get excess water out. And turned the ski off. Mine is still under warranty and will talk to Yamaha on Monday. Hope it's nothing major.

Though something in me says it's the supercharger clutch. Damn.

When my clutch went, it never sounded funny or made any vibration. Went from WOT to 5500rpm and ran like a top, just only went to 5500 rpm. If your ski is 2010 or older make sure the put the updater spacer inbetween the prop and the pump. The older ones squished the seal, water got it in and the bearings go.

At 4k you're no where near boost, so unlikely to be SC. Have you checked your intermediate housing and pump bearings? 20 hrs isn't really enough to to need plugs, but you might try checking your coil connections to make sure everything is seated.

Yep,,,check your pump to see if something is in there or wrapped around your drive shaft. I small string, rope, or plastic bag will do all of the symptoms you describe. Pull off your intake grate and take a look inside.
