    build your own floating dock?

My parents just got a pair of jetski's and are looking for ideas on how to keep from trailering them after everytime they go out. I mentioned a floating dock and they like the idea just not the price. So i was wondering if anyone has built or seen/heard of someone building there own and what did they use. Any other "cheap" suggestions are more than welcome.

I've seen some ghetto (DIY) floating docks on my lake. Some of the simple ones were just some plastic 55 gallon drums strung together, with some 2x6's on top of them for the floor, and some 2x4's around the perimeter to hold them together. I would think like 6 drums would be good for 2 skis.

dont leave the skis in the water,it will ruin them in short order
I would make a ramp out of 2x10s at shoreline to get them out of water.
Picture the 2x10s on edge like trailer bunks partially in the water so you can slide
them up on shore and out of water.
Space them about 2 ft apart(adjust width according to type of hull)

Would that scratch the hulls? Just curious?

Here's a rough idea. My friends have a floating dock that was made some years ago. Might be able to improve on it. It's a little sketchy. I have a few ideas I'll post later
