How do you flush a dead engine

How would you flush out the exhaust and intercooler if your engine goes dead while out in salt water?

The engine needs to be running in order not to flood cylinder, so . . . how do you flush?

technically if you pinched off the tow hose (the one with the red band)

then run the hose on it you will flush your exhaust manifold and intercooler but the water box will still be full of salt water.

best bet is to get it running as soon as possible.

    This information is incorrect!

If you understood, or were to look at the plumbing diagram..... doing that won't flush anything, it will do nothing but fill up the waterbox and then the cylinders with open exhaust valves. The incoming water from the flush hose will have no where to go but to the waterbox & out the exhaust stinger ( pre 08 ) with that "tow" hose pinched off.

With the engine not running, about the only thing you can do is to pull the J-pipe out of the waterbox... with the two water lines still connected to the manifold, then flush it out. This way the water from the J-pipe outlet will end up in your hull, and not fill up the waterbox - engine.

so basically, what you DON'T want to do is let water fill up the waterbox.

08+ must be different because the tow pinch hose is the only hose that injects water

The water will still go in the flush port, throught the manifold, through the intercooler and out the pump.

The "tow" hose is where the water exits (along with dumping in the waterbox) when flushing...... how can the water make it through the exhaust manifold, to the intercooler, and then out the pump when the main pump inlet line is pinched The 08+ cooling system routing is nearly identical to the pre 08's, other than a few minor changes due to the mid pipe and external IC (models equipped).

08 exhaust mainifold has 3 connections going to it

    1 between intercooler and manifold
    1 to water injector
    1 to flush port

Normal operation it goes intercooler -> exhaust manifold then out of exhaust manifold, some to injector - some out the flush port.

If run on the hose with injector pinched it would go into exhaust manifold -> into intercooler -> out pump with no water going into waterbox
