My 1996 SLT 780 won't start, just clicking sound please help!!

I bought my slt 780 used last year and it worked great all season. I tried starting it yesterday for the first time this summer with a new battery and it only makes a clicking sound from the electrical box. I know the battery is charged full and the battery connections are good/clean. I put a multimeter on the battery posts when trying to start and the voltage would drop to just under 6 volts until i let go of the start button, then it would jump back up to 12.8 volts. If anyone knows the fix to this problem please help me out thanks.

Check to see if the crank spins freely.

Remove spark plugs and engine coupler.

Turn crank over by hand using the engine coupler.

Try putting 12V directly to the starter. (bypass the solenoid)

If that doesn't work, the starter is bad. If it does work, the solenoid is bad.

When I did some of the same work, my battery would only drop to 10.9/11 V...6 sounds pretty damn low to me? maybe there is something wrong with the battery, could be possible the initial charge wasn't done properly?

My old battery would drop and I had the clicking problem...

Mine's doing the exact same thing, starter was dirty. take a long screw driver and bang the top of the starter a few times...bet it'll start right up If not you may go have your battery tested...could be a bad cell.
