    96 XP Keeps Blowing Fuse

    1996 XP

I was riding this weekend and the ski just shut off on me and lost all electrical power. I had to get a tow back and troubleshot it when I got home. It is popping one of the fuses in the black box. It pops as soon as you put a new fuse in. I determined that if I unplug the 4 wires going to the rectifier that the fuse is fine and it will start and run. I realize that this is not a fix and that it is not charging the battery like this.

Does this sound like an issue with the rectifier, stator or MPEM? I'd be happy to check out any other options as well if there is anything else I need to attempt to have a better diagnosis.

Magneto has a metal shard most likely from the starter/flywheel strikes over the years(common) pull the mag cover and clean between the mag and flywheel. If its the 10 or 15a fuse,i cant remember. jmo

It has a 10 and a 15 amp in it. The 15 amp I want to say was closer to the edge of the box and the 10 was more toward the middle. It is the 10 amp that is closer to the middle that keeps blowing.

If I am going to be pulling everything I read something about an upgraded stator design that is better for wave jumping. This is mostly what I do and I would probably just upgrade if this is a worthy upgrade. Does anyone have a comparison pic of the stators? I also have a 2000 model engine in the ski - when was the design on these changed?

Any thing else to check? Id hate to put in a new rectifier and blow it or to buy a new one that I don't need.
