What do you put on the head bolts 2000 GP1200

I'm rebuilding a 2000 GP1200. I wire wheeled the head bolts and noticed a whitish colored compound, sort of looked like pipe dope.
What do you guys put on the head bolts before installation? Locktite? If so, what color? Something else?
    Thanks.

Most guys use blue loctite. I use it and have not had any bolts back out.

It's thread sealer. ARP has it for use on head bolts, especially in applications where the bolt or stud extends into a water jacket.
