    700 hurricane into sl?

can you put a 97 hurricane motor into a 97 sl ? I noticed the updated stator for the two is a different part # so i figured you couldnt get by with using the sl stator and cdi . I was planing on getting a updated stator anyway so can i just get a updated stator for the hurricane motor and put the motor stator and cdi in my sl ski or will this cause other problems?

The update "kit" has a different #. The Hurricane and 98-99 700's have a slightly different timing curve in the CDI. Other than the CDI-they are identical.
Alot of people have used the Hurricane CDI in the SL's with no trouble.

But Yes, if you are buyimg an update kit, get the Hurricane kit.

    Use the Hurricane exhaust pipe.

Are you planning on putting it into a SL 700? That'll work.

But a SL 780 won't work without some customizing. Not sure if it will go into a SL 900 easy or not????

My SL900 has extra mounting locations for bolting in motor mounts. Im wondering if its the same hull as the SLX 780? just used different mounts for the Fuji or Domestic motor.

If you are buying a complete Hurricane, take it for a ride, you might like it.

If it's just the engine-all 700's are just bolt in- which engine mounting brackets are you going to use ?

I have a 97 sl700 with blown motor and have found a hurricane 700 motor reasonable.I was probably going to update stator anyway can i just get the update kit for the hurricane . What else would i need to use to make it work all i'll be getting is the motor will my intake and exhaust bolt up and work fine ?whats the difference in the two motors?

In 97,the 700 had either single or dual carbs.
The 96-97 SL's/SLT's ran 6300 rpm-combination of cylinder porting and exhaust pipe.

The Hurricane had different cyl's and pipe -running 6700 rpm.And dual carbs.
I'd recommend using the Hurricane pipe.
Assemble it outside of hull to check pipe to engine bracket clearance.

You can look up both parts lists here:

A complete engine would be easiest. In '00-'01-'02 the 700's ran a single carb at 6700 rpm.
I think it will work on the Hurricane,I don't have any experience with that.
The 96-97 SL/SLT700's dual carbs, had gooffy jetting and probably would need serious adjusting. I think the single might be easier-but like any engine work-you need to check mixture very well to prevent engine damage. If you are not comfortable with tuning-might be better to find an SL/SLT engine.
