    Unusual Problem 04 xlt1200

Had a unuasal problem with my 04 xlt1200, I just got done replacing the crank and jug and when I started the motor for the first time, it ran like it was running out of gas(reving real high)well i went to shut the motor off and hit the kill switch and nothing still reving, pulled the lanyard and still reving (didnt shut off), then i pulled the plug wires and still reving and not shuting off. It never did shut off till i choked it. Ever had this happen to you? What would make it run like that?

sounds like it's dieseling. I don't have any personal experience with that, but I know it's been discussed here before. That might help narrow it down. Good luck.

Definitly dieseling. Did you pressure check the motor after assembly?

Throttle cable shouldn't affect it with lanyard off and plug wires pulled. When it's dieseling sure way to stop motor is hold throttle open. I think you have a air leak somewhere. IDE definitely pull the motor and pressure test it.

Definitely an air leak or very lean. Check both!

it was something with the idle adjuster, front spark plug was lean and the 2 back plugs were wet, messed with the idle adjustment and bam fixed

That still doesn't make sense. If it was just an idle adjuster, it would have stopped with the lanyard and especially with pulling the plug wires. It sounds like you still have an air leak that needs to be checked.

Treated the symptom and not the problem.
