    Jet ski virgin

Hi everyone, just bought my first jet ski, never rode one before, just got a 2001 gp1200r!!! Any advice would be great, iv had it on the lake for 10minutes and it seems fab, but i dont know any of the daily maintenance or anything yet as im a novice, i understand they need flushing out after use and greaseing necassary points is important, but anything else i should be aware of?? Thanks guys!!

Congrats, and welcome! I recently took the plunge myself, and running in salt water. Flushing, like you mentioned is a biggie. I basically do a once over before I go out, just to check oil lines, cables, and hoses. Invest in this spray called fluid film, it resists corrosion very well. There is plenty of info on these boards, just read through some of the older posts and topics.

Where did you get it from? Do you know if it had any safety or performance mods? What is the history of the ski? How mant hours?

im mainly running on fresh water, but this ski has been run on both, the ski is standard as far as were aware, 189hours, all seems to run well, the trim cables upto the handle bars are both rotten so will need replacing, the exhaust temp sensor has been bypassed, and the oil pump has been removed as far as iv been told, so i have to mix the fuel/oil myself. but overall it looks ok. im hoping to become a jetski slut myself one day as long as shes reliable!!

Im a newb here as well with the same ski. It seems like deleting that oil injection pump is the first thing that needs to be done (go check craigs list, sooo many skis listed around here with rebuilds after the number 3 oil line came off) and the other is to put waveeater clips on the power valves so it cant drop one into the cylinder.

are these skis already Dplated? Both of my 01 1200s had rotten cats that had fallen apart and chunks rolling around in the stinger. If you're not sure the only easy way I know to check is to see if the resistor/chip has been hooked up where that sensor would be plugged in, outside of that you gotta pull the stinger and look
