The RC2 cams have quite a bit more lift so its recommended that you upgrade the valve springs when using them. R&D makes a good recreational single spring kit that will work with them. As far as cam gear settings go, you can run them wherever you want. There isn't one setting that is going "break your engine". All they are doing is changing the LSA to wherever you want it.

If I knew more about your setup I could recommend a setting. How much boost do you plan on running, with what tune, what fuel, and how high do you plan to spin the motor?

Do the R&D gears have the little tabs like the Riva ones do? It doesn't show them in the pictures, and doesn't say anything about them. Which is better; the Riva gears or R&D?

Nope, just gears. Nice and simple.

I've been thinking about trying out Riva's. I kinda like the "quick-tune" design that can be adjusted without messing with the tensioner.

So is one better than the other, or is it just a matter of personal preference? How hard is the install, and what else is needed as far as gaskets, etc?

My personal opinion is a lot of it is indeed personal preference. I like the R&D gears myself for an arguably dumb reason - lets parts, less to go wrong.

The only gasket you should really need to replace is the one for the chain tensioner and if you get it off without tearing it chances are you can reuse it. The manual also states to replace the seals on the oil feed tube to the tensioner as well, but I have reused them a few times.

As far as I know you do not have to use any shim unless you wish to further increase the spring pressure.

These are not the valve bucket shims. The valve spring shims.
