Why don't they just print more money to pay the "debt?" And who is US government exactly indebted to for 114.5 trillion? Other countries? Sorry I don't have a clue how this stuff works.

I just look at Jerry's wallet. Has to be loaded with all the jet setting he has been doing this summer. Hanging out with Jason Derulo and all.

Reallly ? If you have no clue how it all works then - YOU and people like YOU are the problem.

Perhaps, but I'm just wondering who they borrow all this money from?

We borrow it from ourselves. All the money us hard workers have taken out of our paychecks to fund our Social Security and Medicaid, done borrowed it all.

The $115 trillion is unfunded liabilities, which is what the gov't is on the hook for Social Security, Medicare & Prescription Drug Liability(Medicare part D). The current debt is $14.5 trillion. The biggest single chunk of the debt is held by American individuals & institutions in the form of t-bills, t-notes & t-bonds, followed by foreign nations like China. A little outdated, but there's a good chart in this article:
    http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/1339...ds-us-debt.htm

There's also a $1.6 trillion chunk that we owe ourselves due to the "quantitative easing" the Fed has done over the last year. QE is basically monetization of debt, or more simply printing money without actually printing money. It was done to help stimulate the economy by increasing the money supply in hopes of making it easier for businesses to get financing, but it's pretty much been a flop & has accomplished nothing but devaluing our currency. The proplem with printing money is it causes inflation & makes imported goods(like oil) more expensive.

Scary how fast the #'s are moving:
