Who knows about riva CDI's
I Bought a riva cdi off ebay for my 98 gp1200. The one in the picture was version B. It says model RY11818 Rev B. The one that they sent me is says Rev A in the corner. Whats the difference between A and B. Did I get ripped off?

there are A,B and C versions-some say they were updated/upgraded with each version but i have had all 3 and one of my A versions lasted the longest on my 70+mph raider 1200 spinning 7400+ rpm's- i think its just luck of the draw-you should be fine- i do know that all 3 versions perform the same-i would recommend using only mod 1

Thanks, I was afraid that version A would not have as good of performance as B. Did you see an improvement in the top speed with the riva over the stock cdi?

negligible gains on top but it allows you to run rpm's higher than stock cdi limited at 7040ish rpm's which allows you to run a taller prop or just a different pitched prop higher rpm's thus more top speed this is a must with extreme porting or triple pipes- another option is to get protec to modify stock cdi and bump rev limiter this option is becoming more desirable as riva cdi's are becoming more scarce since they dont make them anymore and existing riva cdi's are far from bulletproof and can go out on you without warning so best option is to get a stock cdi modified from protec as a back up- the riva cdi does have a better curve than stock so it will perform better

The seller did offer me a refund. Do you think its worth getting a refund and searching for a version B or C ? Or is the difference minimal? I payed $225.00 shipped.

I have a rev B purple and i am spinning 8100 at 67 mph in CC and 7600 at 72.2 mph with the j prop and drag style. I also have the blue rev A and works just as good. There is one blue cdi rev A that was mike's (pistonwash) that he had I think one custom curve in and I thought it had dips on a remote switch so he can change it on the fly. But Mark is right the said that with each revision the box was updated. But also companys make revisions to cheapen the cost of the product too. So you can look at it either way.

I have used version A and B on the same machine and saw absolutly no difference between the two of them.
I don't think the revisions had any performance affects at all.
I would run it. Just my two cents
