    Looking at Yamaha..Questions

Had a deal on some rxt's fall through recently. I do have an opportunity to look at a 2003 1200XLT 110hrs very clean. Owner asking $3500.00. I don't know much about Yamies. Anything I need to know about this rig?

Before u buy it asking him question about motor, was the motor ever rebuilt? Was the carb ever service? Is there any mod on engine? Especally do a compression check, very important. If everything is stock, if u do buy it, looking in getting waveater clip and dplate... first thing to do... I wouldnt paid 3500 for it, 3000 would be resonable especally with 110 hour.. ask if you can test ride it.

speed is correct: first thing you do is a compression check. If that's good, take it on the water and ride the piss out of it! If it runs good on the water, then it's OK to buy.
It's worth $3500, but you can probably knock the guy down to $3000

+1 Ride it and check the engine compartment very good in the bottom for OIL. if you do end up buying it one maintenance thing to do is make sure the oil injection lines are not pulled tight anywhere.

Just recieved a text from seller. Stated 31 piston was replaced and carb was repaired, stated repair shop told him carb failure led to piston failure. Reapirs have 1 year warrenty.

Quick update, Went and rode the ski. Took off and made it about 1/2 mile from were we put in. I stopped and let it idle for a min, when I went to take off again it was very sluggish. Eventually it died and quit running and was unable to restart it. I pulled the seat off to find water up to the base of the motor. I jumped in to check plugs...both were secure. Got a tow to the marina. Needless to say I did not purchase.

That is a good example as to why you should NEVER buy a waverunner, or watercraft, without an on the water test drive. Waverunners are notorious for sometimes sounding great on the trailer, but not able to pull them self up on plane when in the water. Running on the trailer does not begin to load the engine enough to find out simple or complex issues.
