    Newbie here with 96 sl900

First of all I would like to say HELL and THANK YOU. Already found some great info by doing some searches. I just got my first PWC last night 96 SL900 with a no spark problem. The guy was riding it this spring and it just died on the lake. Has NO SPARK, cranks over and good compression. They changed plugs and took the electrical box apart but thats it. I used my battery out of my 09 Polaris Turbo Snowmobile with a good full charge since it seems the battery is a big key to making everything work. I have +12v on the red/purple @ cdi. Cdi brown wire does not provide 7-9vdc when cranking. I unplugged the connection and tested out of the cdi and all there is is about 1.5vdc and doesnt change when cranking. I also tried the 9v battery trick to power the other side of the brown wire with no spark still. I think the cdi part number ended with 137.I would like to get the latest cdi and stator just to make sure. I have since put back together but will check again tonight. Machine has 141hrs on it and is in pretty good shape. Thanks RS

I would suggest just doing the ignition update. Its a little over 300 bucks for the parts.

That what I wanted to hear. I ordered P/N 2873091. Can I just hook up the new cdi and hope I get spark or will the wires not work with the old stator? Kinda want to just use it for the short riding time left. Thanks BryanP!!

New cdi will not work with the old stator. You must install the new one

Well I tested my current stator (non updated ignition) and everything tested fine. Y-r/p= 1.0 ohms, Blk-Pur= 1.256k ohms, Blk-gry= 138 ohms and all Halls-Gnd= open.

If the stator is good you could sell it to recoup some of the cost of the update
