    99 GTX gauges flash and Ski dies at 3000 RPM

    I have a 99 GTX I can't get to rev over 3000 rpm. Seems as soon as it hits 3000 the gauges flash and the ski dies. It will start right back up an idles perfectly. Is this possibly a rectifier gone bad? New Plugs - even compression 125 - doesn't feel like fuel. It consistantly aburply cuts off as soon as you press the throttle up to 3000+ rpms.

    I don't believe it's fuel. The lines replaced last season and carbs cleaned. Seem electrical.

    Is this an RFI? Compression should be 140 - 150. Test your rectifier. Use and voltmeter accross the battery set to Vdc. At idle battery should have 12.? volts. Rev engine to 5500 rpm voltage should increase, but not higher than 15 Vdc. If it goes pass that then the rectifier is bad.

    It's not a RFI - It has over 1000 hrs so the compression is lower at about 125.
    The battery voltage is 12.3 at idle and doesn't change at 2800. I can't rev it higher to test, the ski dies at 3000 rpm. Guess I'll search the posts on testing the stator and rectifier some more. Thanks for the reply.

    Swapped the mpeg and the post and neither helped at all. I'm guessing it's the stator?
