How to check valve part numbers without removing head

I want to check the valve part numbers on my mates '03 or '04 GTX. I thought I could do this by just removing the valve cover, but when I took it off yesterday I couldn't see the letters / numbers, even using a mirror and torch. Do I also need to remove the rockers too? If so do I need to need worry about screwing the timing up (I don't think so so but am looking for reassurance)! If I do need to take it off, do I have to worry about anything when remounting it, apart from re-torqueing the bolts?

    Thanks.

Why do you want to check? Is there any way they could have been replaced with '07 valves? I have had no problem seeing the numbers with rockers on, but needed magnification to read them. Removing the rockers doesn't mess with timing.

If you take the rockers off, remember that you need new bolts, cannot re-use the old ones. Also, let the rockers bleed off for awhile before starting the engine, or you will get a nasty surprise.

Just need a seriously strong magnifier & flashlight. The numbers scroll around the valve's upper portion, above the retainers, so no need to remove anything beyond the valve cover. I was able see mine by looking through some 10x50 binoculars backwards.

BTW, what do you mean by letting the rockers "bleed off"? And what's the surprise? If you've installed new bolts in the correct order with the right torque, isn't it good to go?
