Leave bottom case in to replace crank seals or remove?

Replacing crank seals in a '98 XL1200. Would it be easier to remove motor entirely and deal with lining it back up or leave bottom case mounted in hull and work in limited space?
    Thanks fellas.

Lining the motor back up isn't very difficult. Be sure to pressure test it on the bench.

You have to remove the engine. You have to split the case, and the bolts go in from the lower case up

Should have remembered that my as yet unfinished '01 XLT1200 rebuild.

I'll follow WFO's procedure to line up.

    Thanks

I recently did a full rebuilt and follow WFO's procedure and line up perfectly and very easy to do... Crank case gotta come out to replace the crank seal. Like JKR1300 said crank bolt goes from the bottom up.
