    GTi Fuel Line

I am replacing the fuel lines on my 2000 GTi. The return line from the carb has a short (10") line at the carb that connects to longer line back to the tank. What is the purpose of splitting the line? Can I replace it with a single length from the carb (pump return outlet) to the tank?

I have noticed the same thing.

The only reason I could think of was assembly at the factory. The hull gets prepped with fuel tank, fuel lines etc then later down the assembly line the engine gets dropped in with carbs, intake, exhaust etc all bolted up and the fuel lines are connected with couplings.

When replacing the fuel lines I eliminated the couplings and ran the fuel lines directly to the carbs.
