    Gas mileage Fresh vs Salt?

This may be a dumb question, but has anyone observed a difference in mileage on fresh vs salt water? The Miami to Exhumes in the thread below has got me thinking about what kind of coast to island trips I may be able to make next summer. Would hate to calculate that I can do 90 miles on freshwater and then find out that saltwater cuts it in half. I plan to have plenty of reserve just in case but you know... so salt = fresh?

I have heard that since salt water creates a little more resistance that it lowers mpg, but it is such a small amount that it wouldn't matter.

Bigger waves and currents in oceans vs lakes. Yeah I believe it.

I think Kevin said they averaged 30 ish MPH. It isn't exactly flat water. The smoother the water the better the economy.

Usually fresh water rivers have the best economy. We burn far more fuel per mile running Intracoastal and ocean side simply due to conditions and not the water itself if that makes sense.

Ahh right. Good point. It's like driving uphill (over and over) vs flat. I swear I'm not dumb... the obvious just eludes me sometiimes.
