what would cause a hole in the block

so i've been looking for a winter project the past few weeks and i have found a 07 wake 215 fairly cheap but luck has it that its got a hole in the block so the engine is toast ...i know hydro-locking would cause this due to a bent rod... does any one else know what would do this....

    thanks JUSTIN

I've seen the connecting rod come loose and knock the rod right out the side and knock the starter off the block

Other than the head (if it is not damaged) you have a good anchor.
