    2001 gp1200r oil/ gas mixture

After google i need some help. I have 2001 with a RIva power filters free flow and maybe a d plate! New ski to me. I run yamalube since previous owner did. Two questions: what size tank do I have total for fuel? 13 or 15? Also I premix so what ratio? I'm currently running 32 oz of yamalube per tank of fuel. Previous owner gave me a 32 oz jug and said fill tank with fuel and dump in bottle!

That's not the proper way to premix in my opinion. You'll always have fuel left behind in the tank, you're adding different amounts of gas each time but the same amount of oil. Everyone mostly runs 40:1. Buy yourself a premix cup/jug. I prefer one with a cap on it, for clean storage reasons.

I go to the gas pump, fill up almost all the way and add my oil accordingly, then wash it down with a splash of gas. It's overly simple that way.

Something like this makes life really easy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Quick...item3369c78855

Any marine store or dealer will carry something like that.

so you premix in a gas can(5 gallons i assume) then dump into ski. that makes more sense that way. thanks and fwiw i work downtown, and live 45 min south of you. maybe hook up for a ride or two

yup, exactly what he said. That way, you know the exact ratio of fuel/oil is being poured in.
Pour the oil in the gas can first, then pour in the fuel to mix/agitate it.

The previous owner doesn't sound so bright. If the ski has the aftermarket flame arrestors, "Riva Power filters", you need to confirm with him that he rejetted the carbs.
You can mix in the tank, but be extemely carefull.

didnt know you had to rejet the carbs. i will see if i can get a hold of him and ask him. running yamalube if it matters. cant afford 45.00 a gallon for amsoil as much use as i will put on it.

after searching i see its a 16 gallon tank and i should be running 40:1 and premixing in a jug before

thanks guys for all the help

I've mixed in the tank as well. I monitor the gas pump metering closely and using basic math and a calculator, determine how much oil (exact) needs to be poured in the ski and drive around to help agitate it.

    That's how I do it.

Example: I fill up my premix cup to the 40:1/ 7 gallon mark with oil. Then I pump 6.75 gallons of gas into my ski, then dump oil into my ski and flush it in with the other .25 gallon of gas.

It's extremely simple if you have a premix measuring cup. I don't premix gas in a can.

I can't remember the exact ratio, but this is what I do: I have a 5 gallon gas can, go to the the gas station and pump 5 gallons of gas in the can. Then I have a oil/gas ratio mix bottle (I believe it says sea sense on it) and pour about 18oz of amsoil for every 5 gallons of gas. Pour the oil in the gas can, shake it up good, pour in my ski. I wouldn't try to mix it in the tank for fear of not exact ratios every time or it not mixing properly/fully.
