    98 SLXH rebuild

    Went out Sat trying to catch a glimpse of what's going on with the Ski Summer Fest at Clearwater FL but did not even got close to it.
    The wind was 18 mph, the gulf was like a washing machine. Couldn't resist, we decided to catch a few waves first then head down to check out the actions, but I did not even have a chance to make a jump Just like 5 mins into the ride as we were heading out to open water my SLXH just die. It sounded like weak battery when I tried to start her again !! what the [email protected]#$% Then like 2 mins later as I was drifting to shore hoping letting the battery rest a bit it may get some juice left to start the ski, my son coming back in on the SLX and told me he just bottomed out and he can't steer, he had to use his feet to guide the ski back in! <sigh> I forgot to warn him about couple shallow spots in the area and now 2 cripple skis within minutes. How bad can it be?
    Waited like 15 mins later, I tried crank mine again and same thing, it cranked even weaker, So we got on the SLX using our feet for steering (cool eh?) and tow the SLXH back in.
    Got home, I tried to turn the crankshaft by hand and felt like it catches something and I hoped it was the pump, so off with the pump. The pump came off and checked out perfect!? Tried to turn the crank again and same thing ... oh oh not so good ... and so the search continued.

    Kept going and finally the engine came out. With limited space I have in my garage, top of the ski seems like a perfect workbench.

    Finally, found the culprit you can see what's left of the seal on the towel

    Metal chips left in bottom case. Rust accumulates at bottom showing the ski has been neglected for quite a while or improperly stored.

    With broken bearings and amount of rust I'm seeing, I think I'm better off with a new/rebuilt crank than just trying to replace the broken bearings, even though remaining bearings appear to be in good shape.
    Well, it's getting late so .... to be continued ....

    It's more like being neglected, I should have looked into it when I found the oil pump centrifugal shaft was gummed solid. Good thing I was being cautious to run premix to check the oil pump. Previous owner told me he just gas up and ride ... I believe him now. Broken bearings were as dry as dessert, rust just flew out of there when I popped the stator housing off.

    Just had this ski for about 3 weeks:
    http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/show...w-(to-me)-SLXH

    So, there're some luck, I do have updated ignition now I don't feel so bad about replacing the crank LOL. I can confirm at least the CDI and the coil is updated, not so sure about the stator, could you guy tell me?
    Coil = 4060153
    CDI = 4060180
    Stator = 4060175

    Thanks,
