Intake crossover passages?
What's the real deal with these? Block them off when running aftermarket F/A's? Why?
Could the fact that there not blocked be the reason that I can't seem to dial in my 44mm carbs?

I'm not sure what the passage is there for. I used an R and D Intake when I installed my 44's. The R and D intake does not have any type of passage.
When trying to dial in my carbs I had strange results, I went through 5 jet changes before the problem was found. Turned out my high speed needle valves were bad. The taper on the needle was to steep, someone must have worked on them. The carbs were used and came from a Polaris 785. After changing the valves the carbs responded normaly to tuning.

Those are "balance" tubes, that help with fuel management on the OEM carbs. Leave or fill them, there's not that much of performance gain either way, except when running a taper bore OEM carb the cfm's increase makes the balance tubes/channels useless. They basically helped the OEM set-up meter fuel better.
If you are still runing OEM carbs, one of the best mods you can do is to have the throat taper-bored to a true 46mm all the way through then match the inatke manifold. You'll pick up 2mph and better acceleration with no porting.

I'm running OEM gp1200, 65U carbs & intake on an unported 1100 63M. How does that change things?

no no, 1100 motor, electronics, ect but I swapped in a 65U intake carbs and reeds. Just swapped the 1100's 38's for the 1200's 44's and all related parts.

Yes..you will get more power. You might want to get the engine ported this winter, then your Raider will almost be un-rideable with speed.

Ok, I'll block the passages. No porting this year, unless I can find a cheap spare cylinder to port and bore out to 86mm
